Heavy rains have hit Kenya's capital Nairobi city and it's outskirts on Friday. According to the Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, so far 23 deaths have been reported, with 29 others rescued as property of unknown value destroyed. The transportation system around the city was also halted as vehicles remained submerged in floods while others were swept away by the floods.
Motorists and residents were trapped in several areas including Parklands, Dagoretti, South C, South D, Kariokor, Buruburu, Umoja, parts of the CBD, Globe Roundabout, Kirinyanga road, Kibera, Nairobi waste, kahawa waste among others. The county government has activated 18 Community Based Disaster Response Teams comprising 100 personnel to support search and rescue operations as the rains continue.
