The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has removed Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna from his position as the party’s Secretary General following a resolution by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
In a statement released on June 22, 2026, ODM said the decision was reached after the NEC considered a report by the Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC) regarding complaints raised against Sifuna in his capacity as Secretary General.
“After going through the report and the findings of the IDRC under Article 74(2) of the Party Constitution, the NEC unanimously resolved to adopt the Committee’s recommendations and endorsed the removal from office of Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna. Effectively, Sen. Sifuna ceases to be the Secretary General of the ODM Party,” the statement read.
According to the party, the NEC unanimously adopted the committee’s recommendations, effectively bringing Sifuna’s tenure as Secretary General to an end.
ODM said the disciplinary process was conducted in line with its constitution, citing provisions under Articles 51(3)(f) and 74(2).
The party added that the Internal Disputes Resolution Committee was properly constituted to hear and determine complaints concerning Sifuna in his capacity as Secretary General.
ODM further noted that it is addressing procedural and legal issues arising from the matter, including observations previously made by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) regarding its disciplinary mechanisms.
The NEC also received and considered the IDRC report, which formed the basis of its decision.
“After going through the report and the findings of the IDRC under Article 74(2) of the Party Constitution, the NEC unanimously resolved to adopt the Committee’s recommendations and endorsed the removal from office of Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna,” the statement reiterated.
“Effectively, Sen. Sifuna ceases to be the Secretary General of the ODM Party,” the NEC concluded.
